Abstract

An anchor device for attaching decorative objects to a downlight comprises a rigid annular body 3 that is attachable to the downlight by adhesive pads 4. Hangers 1 are provided for attaching the decorative objects (such as bunting) to the body 3.

Description

A LIGHT FITTING ANCHOR DEVICE

Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a light fitting anchor device, in particular a device for fitting decorations to light fittings; more particularly but not exclusively downlighter lighting fittings.

Background

Increasingly people wish to decorate spaces temporarily, for example for festivities or occasions.

In particular securing decorations to ceilings or plasterwork or paintwork of ceilings or 15 at elevation can be difficult.

In addition or the alternative many people have concerns over damage to their C\I spaces, from such temporary decorations, for example when securing using CO adhesive tape or putty, or using pins or nails.

CO Prior Art

US 6 454 439 (CAMAROTA) discloses a light assembly that includes a frame and a body disposed within the frame. A reflector, a socket and a bulb are disposed in the body. A lens is fitted over the reflector, socket and bulb. The lens is snap fitted in a bezel ring. The bezel ring is snap fitted over to the body so as to be positioned around the reflector. The body is snap-fitted to the frame. An assembler of the light assembly of this invention can maintain a stock of frames, bodies and bezel rings that have different colors or other characteristics, such as on/off switches. Upon receiving an order for a light assembly in which the specific characteristics of the color are specified, the assembler selects the appropriate components from stock and assembles them together to provide the desired assembly.

FR 2 683 616 (MORAULT et al) discloses a flush-fit lighting apparatus according to 35 the invention comprises means for fastening a decorative part. These fastening means are preferably removable and they advantageously consist of clip-fastening means, for mounting by simple forcible insertion. According to a particular embodiment, the lighting apparatus comprises at least two attachment lugs intended to interact a complementary flush-fitting ring provided on the decorative part. The latter may advantageously be made of a material such as plaster and be provided with an insert made of rigid material comprising the means for fastening on the flush-fit apparatus.

US 3 593 021 (AUERBACH) discloses a member having an adhesive backing and an opposite face formed of magnetic material. The support member is concentrically perforated to provide rings in graduated diameters. The rings are selectively removed to provide an opening of predetermined diameter through the support member as to locate and align the latter about light fixtures of various diameters. The support member is adhesively secured to the wall or ceiling surface about and independently of the light fixture. A diffuser carrying an inwardly directed flange adjacent its open end and mounting a plurality of magnets on the flange is applied about the support member so that the diffuser is magnetically secured to the support member. In another form, the magnetic material is provided on the diffuser flange with the C\I magnets being secured to the support member.

The present invention arose in order to overcome problems suffered by existing CO devices.

Summary of the Invention

According to the present invention there is provided a light fitting anchor device comprising a substantially rigid body, an attachment means for attaching the body to a light fitting, and one or more decoration anchor for anchoring independently provided decorative objects to the body.

Such attachment means may be envisaged to be single-use or displaceable.

For example in some embodiments of a single-us attachment means the attachment means may comprise adhesive material.

In some embodiments such temporary attachment means may comprise ferromagnetic material in addition or the alternative. In still further embodiments in addition or the alternative the temporary attachment means may comprise a clip means or resiliently deformable means. Additionally or alternative it may be envisaged that the attachment means may utilise the light fitting, for example so as to be clamped or held between two or more parts of the light fitting, or held in position against gravity by a part of the light fitting.

For example in some embodiments the body may comprise a resilient material, and/or may comprise a discontinuous material or body, so as to enable the body to be placed on or over the light fitting or part thereof.

In some embodiments a permanent or semi-permanent attachment means may be provided. For example this may be envisaged to comprise an adhesive, such that the body is adhered on bonded to a part of the light fitting.

In embodiments for use with downlighter light fittings the body may therefore be envisaged to be attached to the downlight's circular frame, so as to be permanently or semi-permanent around the light. C\I

CO In some embodiments the body may be annular, so as to surround a downlighter in use.

In some embodiments the decoration anchor comprises a hanger. For example such hanger may depend from the body so as to permit decorations to be hung from the body, and/or permit lengths of decorations to be anchored on the body.

In this way it may be envisaged that lengths, strings or ropes of decorations may be hung from one light fitting to another or to other anchoring objects. This may enable decorations to be secured on ceilings in particular with no damage to the ceiling, and on repeated occasions.

In some embodiments the anchors may comprise resilient members, springs or clip members, wherein such members may be envisaged to provide a means of clipping onto or over the decorations. For example such members may clip or pin the decorations against the body or another part of the anchors.

In some embodiments the body may comprise a plurality of anchors for example spaced around the circumference of an annular body. This may enable anchors to be used in a plurality of different direction, angles or locations. In some embodiments the anchors may have different dimensions, heights or lengths.

In some embodiments the anchors may be adjustable, for example in height, length, location or angle. In this way different decorations may be adjusted for in use.

In other embodiments the body may be moveable with respect to the light fitting, or 10 moveable on the light fitting. In this way different decorations may be adjusted for in use.

In some embodiments the anchors may comprise displaceable parts, for example partially or wholly displaceable. In some embodiments the displaceable parts may 15 comprise clip parts, for example resilient or sprung clips for attachment to objects. C\I

Detailed Description of Figures

With reference to the figures there is shown an embodiment of the light fitting anchor device 99 according to the present invention, generally comprising a substantially rigid body 3, an attachment means 4 for attaching the body to a light fitting (not shown), and one or more decoration anchor 1 for anchoring independently provided decorative objects (not shown) to the body.

In particular reference to the pictured embodiment the embodiment comprises an annular substantially rigid body, where the central hole 10 is open to allow the light of the light fitting and having a front face that replaces the frame of the light fitting, and 10 sticks thereto.

In some embodiments the body or device may be transparent so as to minimise aesthetic disturbance.

In this way the attachment means for attachment to an annular surrounding frame of a circular downlighter or recessed lamp, as known in the art, is comprised by four spaced apart adhesive tabs on a rear face. C\I

CO Inn this way the attachment means comprises a plurality of self-adhesive tabs spaced apart around the rear face of the body, which tabs have displaceable covers CO that are removed so as allow the adhesive to be exposed and engaged with the light O fitting's frame.

The front face of the body has a plurality of hangers 1 depending from the face in 25 use, namely extending away from the light fitting, and spaced around the circumference of the light fitting in use.

The hangers provide the anchors for addition or anchoring of decorative objects to the light fitting, such as string of fairy lights, streamers or bunting.

The anchors thereby provide two set of two substantially rigid hooked hanger members which are shaped to be discontinuous towards or away from the hole 10, so as to allow entrance of the object at their free ends.

The two sets are equally spaced so as to be located on opposing sides of the hole 10.

Two of the hangers are discontinuous towards the hole, and two of the hangers are discontinuous away from the hole.

This in turn enables decorative objects to be easily threaded through the discontinuous sides of the hangers, enabling greater flexibility in usage, as well as providing a locking means where two consecutive hangers differ in direction and can thereby provide a friction lock on the decorative object..

The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing from the scope of invention as defined by the claims, in particular but not solely combination of features of described embodiments.

Claims

Claims 1 A light fitting anchor device comprising a substantially rigid body, an attachment means for attaching the body to a light fitting, and one or more decoration anchor for anchoring independently provided decorative objects to the body.
2. A device according to claim 1 wherein the body is annular and substantially rigid, and sized appropriate to a downlight frame.
3. A device according to claim 1 or 2 wherein the anchor comprises a discontinuous hanger.

5. A device according to claim 4 wherein the hangers are arranged in sets, and the sets are discontinuous in different directions.
6. A device according to any preceding claim wherein the attachment means comprises at least one self-adhesive pad.
