Abstract

Shearing.-Hand shears of the lever type for cutting metal have the cutters arranged with their front ends more advanced than any other part of the tool so that they can operate close to a wall &c., and the head is bevelled laterally. The lower cutter f is fixed to a jaw a<1> on a head a on the end of a lever z<1>, and the upper cutter c is secured to a slide b which has a slot h guided in a, projection g on the head and is held against the head by a cover plate o fastened by screws o<1> and a claw v. Slide b is actuated by an eccentric portion k of a shaft t in conduction with a sector m engaging the upper and lower edges respectively of a slot i in the slide. The front ends of the cutters f, c project beyond the head, and the side face of the jaw a<1> is bevelled. Claws n are provided on the jaw a' to receive an angle piece w, Fig. 8, with guide x to facilitate cutting metal strips of uniform width, or a guide y, Fig. 11, with a Pivot may be fitted to the angle piece w for cutting circular discs.
