Abstract

259,289. Metallisation, Ltd., and Ballard, W. E. July 4, 1925. Coating.-In a method of protecting articles of oxidizable metals against oxidation, corrosion, &c. the cleaned article is coated with a very thin deposit of aluminium and then provided with a coating of a reducing substance or a substance which on being heated forms a coating of a reducing substance, the treated article then being heated to a temperature in the vicinity of the melting point of aluminium so as to form an adhering aluminium-containing coating on the article. The heating of the article may be effected, especially in the case of fire-bars, &c., in situ and when the article is in service. The reducing substance may comprise a carbonaceous substance such as lamp black, bitumastic, paint, oil waste or a mixture of charcoal and graphite alone or in admixture with suitable fluxing compounds. Instead of aluminium, aluminium chromium, aluminium silicon, or aluminium copper alloys may be used. Specification 204,384 is referred to.
