Abstract
This present invention relates to a method of printing an inkjet ink, wherein the inkjet ink comprises: a non-redispersible aqueous polyurethane (meth)acrylate dispersion; a polyoxyalkylene alkyl/alkenyl ether surfactant; and optionally a colouring agent; the method comprising: (i) inkjet printing the inkjet ink onto a substrate; and then, in either order,(ii) drying the printed ink; and(iii)curing the printed ink by exposing the printed ink to a low-energy electron beam. The present invention also provides an inkjet ink comprising: a non-redispersible aqueous polyurethane (meth)acrylate dispersion; a polyoxyalkylene alkyl/alkenyl ether surfactant; and optionally a colouring agent; wherein the ink comprises 5% by weight or less of photoinitiator, based on the total weight of the ink.
Claims (15)
- Claims1 . A method of printing an inkjet ink, wherein the inkjet ink comprises: a non-redispersible aqueous polyurethane (meth)acrylate dispersion; a polyoxyalkylene alkyl/alkenyl ether surfactant; and optionally a colouring agent; the method comprising: (i) inkjet printing the inkjet ink onto a substrate; and then, in either order, (ii) drying the printed ink; and (iii) curing the printed ink by exposing the printed ink to a low-energy electron beam.
- 2. A method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the ink comprises 5% by weight or less of photoinitiator, based on the total weight of the ink.
- 3. An inkjet ink comprising: a non-redispersible aqueous polyurethane (meth)acrylate dispersion; a polyoxyalkylene alkyl/alkenyl ether surfactant; and optionally a colouring agent; wherein the ink comprises 5% by weight or less of photoinitiator, based on the total weight of the ink.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 1 or 2, or an inkjet ink as claimed in claim 3, wherein the ink further comprises an inorganic silicate.
- 5. A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2 or 4, or an inkjet ink as claimed in claims 3 or 4, wherein the inorganic silicate is selected from colloidal silica or an alkali metal, preferably colloidal silica.
- 6. A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2, 4 or 5, or an inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 5, wherein the polyoxyalkylene alkyl/alkenyl ether surfactant is present in 0.1 -5% by weight, preferably 0.1 -2% by weight and more preferably 0.1 -1 % by weight, based on the total weight of the ink.
- 7. A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2 or 4 to 6, or an inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 6, wherein the polyoxyalkylene alkyl/alkenyl ether surfactant is a polyoxyethylene alkyl/alkenyl ether surfactant.
- 8. A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2 or 4 to 7, or an inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 7, wherein the polyurethane (meth)acrylate dispersion is present in 30-95% by weight, based on the total weight of the ink.
- 9. A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2 or 4 to 8, or an inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 8, wherein the polyurethane (meth)acrylate dispersion has a number average molecular weight of over 500 Daltons to 20,000 Daltons.
- 10. A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2 or 4 to 9, or an inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 9, wherein the ink further comprises a humectant.
- 1 1 . A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2 or 4 to 10, or an inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 10, wherein the ink further comprises a synthetic thickener.
- 12. A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2 or 4 to 1 1 , or an inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 1 1 , wherein the colouring agent is a dispersible pigment .
- 13. A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 , 2 or 4 to 12, or an inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 12, wherein the ink comprises 40-95% by weight of water, based on the total weight of the ink.
- 14. A cartridge containing the inkjet ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 13.
- 15. A printed substrate having the ink as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 13 printed thereon.
