Abstract
258,615. Duhamel, E. C., and Compagnie Generate des Industries Textiles. Sept. 18, 1926. Washing, processes and materials for.-Wool in flocks and fleeces, and wool-bearing skins, are first partially washed to remove mud and soluble constituents (if desired after a preliminary saturation) in a cold suint liquor which is again used, preferably after partial purification, for instance by centrifuging, for further partial washings until it becomes a concentrated suint liquor; the wools are then, after unhairing if necessary, washed with a hot detergent liquor to remove the grease. The concentrated liquor from the first (cold) washing may be stored in tanks, or used at once for the hot washing-operation proper. The partial washing may take place in an apparatus wherein the wool is acted on by a jet of liquid whilst a beater-roll removes impurities from the fibres. Wool grease may be added to the suint liquor used in the partial washing. The partial washing in the cold may be effected in several stages with counter-current circulation of the liquid. After rinsing and removal of the wool from the skin, in lieu of steeping in hot carbonate of soda, suint liquor obtained as above may be used, this liquor being subsequently passed through a degreasing centrifuge, and re-used. The wool next passes through squeeze-rolls, and unless suint liquor is used as the hot detergent the suint still remaining in the wool may be removed by spraying with water in counter-current (the resultant liquid being used in the cold partial washing). If the washing proper is effected by hot concentrated suint liquor followed by soap solution as in Specification 240,482, the rinsing liquor following the hot suint washing may be utilized for the cold partial washing operation. Concentrated suint liquors of different installations may be mixed together to maintain an even, high concentration. Specification 240,499 is also referred to.
