Joint-making packing.-A packing for the closure-fittings of portable liquid fire extinguishers using carbon tetrachloride &c. consists of a packing ring f of asbestos, copper, &c., and a domeshaped deformable metal foil g surrounding the packing ring. The foil has a depression h or concentric corrugations easily pushed inwards by a pin c which also deforms the lower end of a cartridge e so as to break a frangible vessel k.
