Abstract
257,649. Hughes & Co., Ltd., F. A., (Harriss, R. H.). May 25, 1925. Corrugating; jointing by stamping.-A device for attaching detonators D, Fig. 3, to lengths of safety fuzes D' comprises multiple jaws A, Figs. 1 and 2, formed with operating faces arranged in two or more series a, a<1> each of which series is situated in one and the same transverse plane, so that when the jaws are simultaneously forced inwards upon the neck of a detonator D, the faces will produce two or more separate and practically continuous circumferential indentations d, d', the metal between these indentations being bulged outwards and the bulge or bulges filled by the material of the safety fuze by the pressing operation, thereby forming a water-tight joint. As shown in Fig. 1, the jaws A are conically shaped outside and fit in the conical end C' of a casing C, by means of which conical fit the jaws are pressed inwards when pushed up as described in Specification 253,162. A tubular holder B is provided for the detonator, which is inserted from the stop and stopped by a shoulder b, preferably so positioned that the upper circular indentation d produced by the jaws will extend to the top edge of the detonator as shown in Fig. 3.
