Abstract
257,563. Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges. Aug. 27, 1925. [Convention date]. Portable sets ; magnetomicrophonic relays ; diaphragms. - An appliance for deaf persons comprises a microphone amplifier having a fine carbon filling and a radially stretched diaphragm which is rendered insensible to sound oscillations so that it is actuated exclusively by an electromagnet system. The amplifier is located in a flat box adapted to be carried in the pocket. The amplifier has a single diaphragm, preferably of thin metal foil, with a centrally attached iron armature, which is acted upon by a magnet system, while the other side of the diaphragm bounds a microphone chamber. The granules in the microphone are fine in relation to the size of the chamber . The amplifier microphone is housed, with a transmitter microphone 1, Fig. 1, in a flat box 2 which is provided with a switch 9 and a regulating resistance 10, and contains a dry cell 3. A lead 4 connects the amplifier with the ear telephone 5. The amplifier microphone comprises a granule chamber 11, Fig. 2, formed in a block of insulating material 16 and closed by a diaphragm 12 of metal foil, preferably of phosphor bronze of a thickness of .01 mm. and gilded. The chamber, which is of a depth of a few millimeters, is filled with fine grains of carbon. The central part of the back of the chamber consists of a conducting surface 13. The diaphragm 12 is secured to a ring, preferably by soldering, and is stretched by an annular ridge 17 on the body 16. To the centre of the diaphragm is soldered a disc 14 of iron of about .2 mm. in thickness. The construction of the diaphragm, together with the granule packing, renders the diaphragm aperiodic, but a felt ring may be located in the chamber. The magnet system is provided with concentric poles, a central rod 18 and an annular plate 19 surrounding the rod 18, connected by polepieces 21, 22 respectively to the poles of a permanent magnet 20 which consists of a diametrically magnetized ring.
