Abstract

257,560. Sensicle, L. H. May 21, 1925. Tar suitable for road-making is obtained from a by-product plant without distillation by collecting separately the part of the condensates rich in naphthalene or phenol, removing the latter substances, and mixing the residue with the remainder of the condensates, thus adjusting the composition of the tar. The tar or mixture of tars may be dehydrated before or after treatment by a method such as that described in Specification 257,024. The composition of the product may also be adjusted by admixture of tar distillate fractions such as anthracene or creosote oil or pitch.
