Abstract

257,440. Clarke, T. W. H. Oct. 23, 1925. Endless chain portable elevators with slat carriers; feeding devices; driving-gear.-The elevator is designed particularly for use with root crops and is driven by an engine I2 mounted on a frame 11 which is erected over the feeding hopper 5. The elevator comprises a series of slats 7 secured centrally to an endless chain. The elevator runs through the hopper 5 and between side boards 5<a>, and is supported by angle bars 10. The hopper 5 is substantially V-shape in crosssection and has sides composed of slats 6. A space 16 is left between the upper end of the elevator and the shoot 15 for the passage of leaves, weeds, &c. adhering to the slats. Falling soil, &c. is received on an endless band arranged below the elevator and agitated by striking on the underside. The roots may be turned over by paddles or spokes arranged between the hopper and shoot.
