Abstract

A kettle comprises features for ease of use. A two-way, bifurcated handle 102 can be held using one or two hands. A sink rest 101 comprises an extendable support am to rest on the edge of a sink while filling the kettle, and can be retracted into the kettle body (jug) 103. The kettle body can change colour to indicate temperature change. An LCD control panel 106 can tell the user how much time it will take the boil the water in the kettle, and recommend the amount of water needed for a number of people. Controls 107 can be used to preset the desired temperature to which the water is heated. Thermals sensors are used to stop heating once the desired temperature has been reached. The jug sits on a base, and a spring-operated shut-off valve is opened when the jug is placed on the base. However, an electronic shut-off valve prevents water from exiting the tap 108 on the base until a water release button 104 is pressed. A lid opening lever is also provided on the jug, as are steam release holes in the jug lid.
