Abstract
A hinge mechanism 1 comprises a connection rod (2, 1b) and fitments (3, 1b) which enable the hinge to be attached to a structure. The hinge has two positions, open and closed, and which form an inverted V which supports the load bearing surface 4, 5. The hinge mechanism can also be operated using a mechatronic pneumatic system (6,7 fig 2b) by a rod-less actuator with mechanical linkage or remotely using sensors.

Inverted Hinge Folding Mechanism
This invention relates to a hinge mechanism, needed to enable a structure to fold at an angle, which operates moving parts giving support and stability for safety function.
To overcome this problem this invention proposes the use of an inverted folding mechanism that may or may not use a mechatronic pneumatic system. It will function as a hinge, which enables member parts to move to fixed angles.
The angle of the hinge will be fixed and add stability and give load baring support to the moving parts of a structure. The fix positions either flat (closed) or angled (open) apex in the shape of inverted V
Preferably the hinge may or may not function electronically using sensors to enable remote control.
Preferably use a rod-less actuator, with mechanical linkage, able to move to two possible fix positions, for example A or B.
Preferable position A would operate member parts 4 and 5 moving either to a closed or open position (Fold or unfold) giving support and stability to the load baring base structure.
Preferably position B would operate member parts 8 and 9 to open or close position at the upper folding structure for ease of function.
Preferably the inverted V hinge mechanism will operate in conjunction with but not solely as a part of an armchair convertible
The invention will now be described solely by way of examples and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 a; b; c Shows member parts 1; 2 and 3 when assembled and forms the Hinge Mechanism.
Figure 2 a; b Shows the Hinge Mechanism (1) attached to member parts 4 and 5 base structure and 6 a mechatronic system.
Figure 3 a; b; c Shows the Hinge mechanism with the mechatronic system, member part 7, attached to member part 8 and 9 and functioning as a folding support system.
In figure 1 the hinge member parti comprising of parts 2 a connection rod and part 3 fixtures which enable the hinge to be attached to a structure. The hinge would then move from the closed to open position at a fixed angle.
Figure 2 shows member part 1 which may be made from metal alloy; steel or chrome plated. When attached to a base structure, member parts 4 and 5, it is then able to move manually or pneumatically using a mechatronic system for automatic control movements, by member part 6
Figure 3 also shows member parts 6 and 7, a rod-less actuator with mechanical linkage, A and B, where A moves the base structure and B moves the upper structures member part 8 and 9 as seen in figure 3c. The linkage may be operated electronically using sensors, the overall system enables a strong and stable support for load baring functions. Member parts 4, 5, 8 and 9 can be made from a range of solid materials such as, wood; metal; glass; or a combination in addition to upholstery materials.
Claims (5)
1 A hinge mechanism comprising two possible positions, open and closed, in which close supports a horizontal/base structure, whereas open becomes an inverted V, capable of supporting a load baring structure such as a table top.
2 A hinge folding mechanism according to claim 1 in which fixed angles add stability to a structure enabling safe use.
3 A hinge folding mechanism according to claim 1 in which the fixed angle of support can be achieved through manual manipulation of moving parts.
4 A hinge folding mechanism according to claim 1 in which the fixed angle of support can be achieved through mechatronic pneumatic system using a rod-less actuator with mechanical linkage.
5 A hinge mechanism according to claim 1 that can be operated remotely using electronic sensors to control a motor to achieve a fixed support for a structure.
