Abstract

254,528. White, S. D., and Penwarden, E. H. July 21, 1925. Ceiling and like overhead lamps.-In an overhead lamp for lighting buildings, promenades, &c., light from electric lamp bulbs is transmitted through the sides of the lamp body and light from one or more additional bulbs is directed through the bottom of the lamp body by one or more reflectors. In one form, the lamp body comprises a glazed octagonal part 2 surmounted bv a pyramidal part 3 glazed in some cases, the bottom of the lamp being open, or preferably closed by a glazed door 12 hinged to a bottom ring 13. A reflector 8 is supported on brackets 17 on the ring 13 and encloses a lamp bulb adjustably mounted by means of a stem and a thumb-nut. Other lamp bulbs 19 are arranged outside and preferably above the reflector 8, the outer surface of which may also be reflecting. In a second form, the lamp bulbs 25. Fig. 2, for downward illumination are arranged within hemispherical reflectors 24 carried by plates 23, and the upper bulbs are provided with a separate reflector 21, an additional lamp bulb 26 being provided for use when the bulbs 25 are not required.
