Abstract

253,249. Wollaston, H. J. Buchtman-. March 26, 1925. Calculating-apparatus.-An instrument for performing multiplication and division and for use as a protractor, for scale-reading &c., comprises a base member B marked with a triangle a, b, c and carrying a pivoted arm F<1>. The triangle is divided up centesimally, and interior lines are drawn as shown in part. The arm is also similarly divided and may be rigid with another arm f<3> also divided and co-operating with the graduated edge f<2> of the base member. By means of this arm f<3> lines can be drawn, divided and measured, the arm being thickened to bear upon the drawing surface. The arcuate edge d e h may be graduated in degrees and/or radians and straight lines such as d e may be drawn parallel to the base of the triangle and be graduated in functions of the divisions of the base. One Provisional Specification suggests other forms of the instrument wherein a number of triangles having a common vertex may be inscribed on the base member.
