Abstract

A sensor (1) is formed of a graphene or silicon based nanostructure (10) having a flow path (21) which may be a channel or nanowire. The flow path is functionalised to attract certain molecules. The flow path has contacts (22) at either and the loading of the functionalised flow path alters the charge on that path and gives a measurement of the molecules. The sensor can provide a particularly sensitive device which can monitor a number of biomolecules in real-time, and in particular molecules associated with stress.
