Abstract

Loud - speakers; diaphragms. - A loud-speaker has a large conical diaphragm of light weight and made of stiff fibrous material, is iormed near its edge with one or more reverse bends forming a comparatively narrow flexible rim, by which it is mounted. As shown in Fig. 2, the conical diaphragm 1 has one reverse bend 2 forming a rim which is cemented along its edge to a circular metal frame 3. The edge of the frame is bent over to cover and protect the edge of the diaphragm. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, there are three bends 2 ... 2<11>. A suitable material for the diaphragm is a wellaged, long fibred, brittle paper. The supporting frame 3, which is carried by a post 6 secured to a base piece 7, is formed with a central aperture in which the electrical movement is secured and with a number of openings 10 ... 12 for the emission of sound. The electrical movement, comprising a polarized reed 23 projecting from one limb of a permanent magnet 13 into the gap on a bifurcated pole-piece on the other limb, forms the subject-matter of Specification 253,080.
