Abstract

Bases and cases; switchboards. - Tumbler switches for mounting on junction boxes, automobile dash-boards &c. have the switch proper mounted on a carrier forming a cover, lid or bridge the fixed contacts with their insulating base being removable from the carrier without disturbing the tumbler mechanism. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the bridge c of the tumbler mechanisms are screwed into apertures in the carrier plate b and the fixed contacts with their terminals e are mounted on an insulating member d also secured to the plate b, the plate b being secured in a recess in the dash-board so that the terminal screws g are accessible on removing a protective cover (not shown) which is clamped in position by the rings a. Where the switch is mounted in a conduit box (Figs. 6 and 8) the carrier is in the form of a bridge b<1> secured by screws to the sides of the box so that it lies flush with the surface of the wall and the protective cover i can be held in position by the ring k or screws at the corners j<1>. The detachable insulating member d<1> carrying the fixed contacts may be extended where two switches are mounted in the box, or two similar members may be provided in the case of a two-way switch.
