Abstract

A letterbox draught excluder, for attaching to a letterbox aperture on an internal or external door is disclosed. The draught excluder comprises a frame attached to the back of the door by self tapping screws or self-adhesive. The draught excluder has a hinged flap to allow post to pass through it and then closes to form a seal to prevent heat loss. The hinge may comprise a living hinge or a conventional hinge. The flap closes through its own weight. The flap may be held closed by magnets.

Description

LETTERBOX DRAUGHT EXCLUDER
Introduction & Background to the invention
This invention relates to a letterbox draught excluder When holes are cut out to fit letterboxes to the front of a door there is usually cold air from the outside which seeps through gaps around the front letterbox plate and flap causing heat loss and expense
Statement of invention
To overcome this problem the proposed invention comprises of a letterbox draught excluder which is attached to the back of the door and allow post to be delivered through it and seat after post has passed through to form a seal from the cold air Advantages The invention will reduce the effect of heat loss considerably and also save money It has been claimed that a lot of energy is lost through the gaps in a etterbox and having fitted many draught excluders in the past I still felt that there could be a better way of controlling the cold air coming in and preventing heat loss a very simple design solution came to mind which I have submitted here
Introduction to drawings
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings There are 3 pages of drawings Fig 1 refers to the front face of the draught excluder Fig 2 refers to the side elevation of the draught excluder and side elevation of door Fig 3 refers to the rear elevation of the draught excluder
Detailed description
This invention relates to a letterbox draught excluder I have fitted many of the Draught excluders that are currendy on the market place and have had to re-visit the same customers when these have failed due to the snapping of the moulded plastic frame or the brushes falling out of their respective holding mechanism, the other problem is that many pets (mostly dogs) have a tendancy to jump up at the letterbox draughtproofers and breaking them with their paws /claws and although my invention isn't bomb proof I think that it is more robust especially as it has a front flap which is an integrated part to the main moulding which is hinged by the living hinge which also assists with the sealing quality this invention came about more from actual experience of current market place draught excluders, and I have also noticed through prototyping that my invention does actually seal incredibly well (1 am hoping to test these somehow to prove their capability) This invention also helps as far as the greener issues which is currently a popular subject in this market The letterbox draught excluder is made up of a moulded component ( A) which has preferably a living hinge (C) ( optional to piano or other style hinge) which allows the flap (B) to hinge upwards allowing post to pass through the aperture of the door letterbox U) and letterbox draught excluder and then the flap (B) closing down through its own weight to meet flush with a front gasket seal (D) which is in turn attached to the aperture by means of one sided seff-adhesive backed tape, the flap (B) has a thin steel plate (U) attached to the back of the flap (B) surface which meets the front gasket(D) when closed to form a draughtproof seal, the flap(B) is also held down in position by two or more rare earth or standard magnets (H) which are positioned within the rear of the bottom of the frame aperture(A) these are integrated into the moulding bottom part of frame(A) at the back so that they are not visible when the frame is mounted to the door (I) ,the mounting of the draught excluder moulding(A) is achieved by placing a rear gasket (K) in between the moulding(A) and the door itself (I) and then fixed to the door (I) by self-tapping screws (E) through the holes (F) and or self-adhesive tape, the alignment of the bottom of the aperture of the moulding (A) to the bottom of the door aperture is essential so as not to restrict post passing through both apertures
