Abstract
The device utilises a normal absorbent pad installed in a flexible plastic container, in such a manner that the pad does not come into contact with any item of clothing at any time. It can be changed within a few minutes, is not touched by hand at any time during the process. The article comprises a flexible bag or pouch with an absorbent pad adhered to the inside, which has carrying handles or straps which allow the user not to touch the absorbent pad, and which tie together to seal the bag after use. The device keeps the pad away from the anus area to reduce the possibility of infection.
Description
I
A DEVICE TO ASSIST THE HANDLING OF INCONTThENCE IN MEN This invention relates to a device to assist the handling of incontinence in Men.
There are many such devices already available and in general they rely upon the use of absorbent fabric pads which are supplied with an adhesive backing strip which is removed in use and the exposed adhesive utilised to fix the pad to the inside of the underpants which may be of the normal everyday type or specially made garments which resist the passage of fluid. When the pad is saturated or near, the pad must be removed from the garment and disposed of in some hygienic manner and a new pad installed, this is a fairly lengthy business and can be messy Many users of this system are by the nature of things elderly and possibly lack dexterity, This is bad enough if they are at home but whether elderly or not it is much more difficult when a pad has to be re-placed for example in a public toilet.
Other devices available rely upon collecting the urine via a catheter,or a type of condom fitted to the penis, into a reservoir and then manipulating a valve arrangement to empty the reservoir According to the present invention there is provided a system whereby adhesive pads are not fitted to any item of clothing and used pads are not touched by hand at any stage of removal and have built in a system to seal the used pads for hygienic disposal, the whole process taking 2 to 3 minutes and thus easily carried in a public toilet.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which..
Figure 1 shows two views of the lightweight deformable plastic container with built in carrying straps, the shaded portion indicates a standard incontinence pad adhering to the inside.
Figure 2 shows the side the container without the pad fitted under the testicles and the side with the pad raised to the base of the penis by the use of the carrying straps.
Figure 1 shows two views of the lightweight deformable plastic container with built in carrying straps, the shaded portion indicates a standard incontinence pad adhering to the inside.
Figure 2 shows the side the container without the pad, fitted under the testicles and the side, with the pad, raised to the base of the penis by the use of the carrying straps.
Figure 3 shows the effect of pulling up the underpants over the bag and causing the pad to curve around the testicles with the container, thus substantially sealing the pad from possible contact with the anus area and reducing the possibility of urinary infection. Nonnal ly the underpants or similar garment with elasticated waistband keep the system in place, but in some cases it may be necessary to provide a couple of buttons on the garment to which the straps can be hooked.
To replace the used container it is only necessary to lower the underpants and then lower the container using the carrying handles until it is clear of the genitals then tie the two handles together thus sealing the container for disposal. A fresh unit can now be fitted, the whole procedure taking two or three minutes.
Each new unit is very light weight and sealed for transport purposes by temporarily tying the handles when packing a bag to travel.
Claims (2)
