Abstract

250,525. Sõureschutz Ges. April 11, 1925, [Convention date]. Metal pipes.-Articles such as metal tubes are protected against acids by providing them with notches, periorations, &c. and coating them, so as to fill the notches &c., with a suitable liquid or dissolved condensation product comprising phenol-aldehyde resins and fillers, and hardening the coating by heating. The base to be coated may be first varnished with a phenolaldehyde resin, and the varnish hardened. The coating may include fabrics such as asbestos paper or fabric, metal cloth, jute, paper or like gauzes, which may be inserted between two layers of condensation product. The coating is formed from plastic material by kneading, stamping, rolling, pressing &c. Suitable fillers to mix with the phenol-aldehyde resin are quartz powder, asbestos or cellulose fibre, chamotte powder, or ground hardened phenol-aldehyde resin. To make strong coverings, the outer layer of hardened resin may be removed by grinding the article heated several times to about 200‹ C. to drive off volatile ingredients, and the surface painted with liquid, fused or dissolved phenol-aldehyde resin which is finally hardened. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the process as applicable to articles in general, whether used in chemical industry or not, and describes also the addition of fillers to the phenol-aldehyde resins as optional. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
