Abstract

250,218. Guss-und Tafelglash³tten- Akt.-Ges. April 6, 1925, [Convention date]. Chimneys; globes.-The outer surface of a non- spherical chimney or globe a of a storm or like lamp is provided with a number of similarly shaped prisms b having substantially horizontal totally reflecting upper surfaces adapted to deflect sideways and downwards all rays of light projected upwards from a light source c. The prismatic part has a smooth inner surface and has a somewhat contracted upper end, and the light source c is placed on the axis of, but below, the prismatic part and within a non-prismatic and also somewhat contracted transparent extension. The lower surface e of each prism is arranged parallel to or inclined at a smaller angle to the horizontal than the upwardly directed ray x', Fig. 2, passing through the globe so that no such ray x<1> is totally reflected in an upward direction from the lower surface e.
