Abstract
A fishing rod stand with a detachable rig holder. The one piece stand comprises a tube 1 having a spike (2, fig 2) attached thereto. The spike is provided with small vanes (3, fig 2) to aid placement into the ground. A small tube 6 is provided on the side of the tube. The small tube houses a wire 7 having a hook 8 at its far end for supporting a rig 10. The wire is easily detached from the small tube.
Description
Compact Sea Angler's Fishing Rod Stand With Detachable Rig Holder
Background
This invention relates to a compact fishing rod stand with an integral rig holder.
Statement of Invention
Conventional fishing rod stands are of a large and unwieldy tripod construction, which must be unfolded, adjusted when stood on uneven or sloping beach and made secure to prevent them from falling over. Their height makes them difficult to transport, unstable and, very often weights must be added to improve their stability.
They become more difficult to make stable on a soft, crumbling, rocky or sloping beach. Componcnts often work loose through repeated assembly and may be lost, potentially rendering the device unusable. Many feature a rig holder in the form of a hook below the apex of the tripod where ease of access is restricted by the convergence of the tripod's legs.
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a compact, solid, one-piece rod stand which may be screwed into the beach or between rocks and which features a light weight detachable wire rig holder.
Introduction to Drawings
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: * Figure 1 shows a sea angler's fishing rod secured in the invention and a sea angler's rig suspended from the integral rig holder.
* Figure 2 shows the detail of the solid one-piece stand.
* Figure 3 shows the detachable wire rig holder attached to the top part of the solid one-piece stand.
Detailed Description
Figure 1 illustrates the operation of the operation the invention which comprises a tubular compact solid one-piece rod stand I and a light weight detachable rig holder 7. The one-piece rod stand I is pushed into the beach, which may comprise sand, stones, cobbles, rocks or cracks in a jetty or harbour wall. An angler's fishing rod 12 is shown inserted into the solid one-piece stand 1 and the angler's rig 10 is shown hung from the hook S at the top of the detachable rig holder 7 which in turn is shown connected to the rod stand 1 at the attachment point 6. The anglers rod 12 and the angler's rig 10 are not part of the invention but are shown to illustrate how the invention is used with them.
Figure 2 shows the construction of the fishing rod stand component of the invention.
A tube 14 with a diameter 5, larger than the diameter of a sea angler's fishing rod is formed into a taper 13, the end of which is attached to a central solid steel spike 2. A number of angled small vanes 3 are fitted around the central steel spike. The solid steel spike 2 has a pointed end 4, which allows the fishing rod stand 1 to be easily pushed into the beach, cracks between rocks or cracks on piers and jetties. The small vanes 3 provide sufficient lateral resistance to support a fishing rod in loose sand or beach but their angled attachment and their small size does not impeded insertion of the fishing rod stand into cracks and crevices in rocks, harbour walls or piers.
Figure 3 details the detachable wire rig holder 7 and the method of its attachment to the fishing rod stand component of the invention. The detachable wire rig holder 7 is inserted into a narrow diameter tube 6, which is welded to the outer surface of the top end of the tubular body 14 of the fishing rod stand. The top of the detachable wire rig holder 7 is bent over and formed into a hook 8 from which the sea angler may hang his ready-bated rig.
Claims (1)
- <claim-text>Claims 1. A compact sea angler's fishing rod stand incorporating a detachable rig holder, having no moving parts and which may be easily inserted into a wide variety of beach materials including cracks and crevices in rock, harbour walls, jefties and piers and yet maintaining adequate support for the fishing rod.</claim-text> <claim-text>2. A compact sea angler's fishing rod stand according to claim 1, in which the avoidance of moving parts is provided by supporting the rod in a single tube construction.</claim-text> <claim-text>3. A compact sea angler's fishing rod stand according to claim 2, in which the single tube constiuction ends in a pointed spike surrounded by angled small vanes making it easily to push into a wide variety of beach materials.</claim-text> <claim-text>4. A compact sea angler's fishing rod stand according to claim 3, in which the small vanes provide lateral stability while not impeding thc insertion of thc spike into the beach by virtue of their small size and angled attachment.</claim-text> <claim-text>5. A compact sea angler's fishing od stand according to claim i, in which the dctachable rig holder is provided by a wire which ends in a hook and which plugs into the tubular body of the fishing rod stand component.</claim-text>
