Abstract
Dredging head 1 has a pair of arms 10,11 each for connection at one first end 10A,11A to a vessel X. At least one arm has an internal water channel. Head 1 has a frame 20 connected to a second end 10B,11B of the pair of arms. The frame has at least one bar 21,22 supporting a water outlet 21A,22A. The frame has an internal water channel. In use water can be passed through the arm/s and frame water channels to deliver water to water outlet/s. The water outlets may be a plurality of spray nozzles which can direct jets in a V shape. The arms and frame can be formed from hollow tubing.
Description
fltk;J1.c!d for Du.*dging The present invention relates to a head for dredging.
My UK patent application 6B2454729A describes a dredging vessel in which a head is supported at one the end of a pair of arms hinged to the vessel. The head has a pair of bars supporting nozzles which are connected to a pressurised supply of water through hoses leading from the vessel. in some circumstances these hoses can get caught on objects adjacent the water bed being dredged causing damage to the hoses which can lead to the dredging vessel being inoperable.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a bead for dredging comprising: a) a pair of arms each for connection at one first end to a vessel, at least one arm having an internal water channel, and b) a frame connected to a second end of the pair of arms, said frame having at least one bar supporting a water outlet, said frame having an internal water channel connected to the or each bar and to the or each arm water channel, In use water can be passed through the or each arm and frame water channel from the first end of an arm to deliver water to the or each bar water outlet.
Preferably the or each bar has a water outlet in the form of a plurality of spray nozzles.
Preferably a pair of bars are provided and the spray nozzles direct water jets in a V-shape.
Preferably the frame and anus are formed from hollow tubing forming said water channels.
Preferably the frame is supported at a fixed angle relative to the arms. Preferably the frame is formed from four sections in a rectangle with two parallel sections forming said bars and two parallel sides connected to said arms.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Referring to thc drawing there is shown a head I for dredging.
I-lead 1 hasapairofarms I0,lI,Arms 10,11 eachhaveafirstend lOA,llApivotaliy connectable to the stern of a vessel "X" Vessel "X" may be of the type shown in my application GB245729A the contents of which are hereby incorporated herein by reference. Arms I (UI each have second end 10ff] IS.
Arms 10,1 1 are each formed from "square" tubing to provide an internal water channel along their length.
A frame 20 is connected to the second end of the pair of arms 10,11. Frame 20 is formed from Four sections 212223,24 of hollow "square tubing". Two parallel front and rear sections 21,22 form bars each with a water outlet in the form of spray nozzles 2iA22A which direct water jets in a V-shape. Two parallel side sections are connected tos 10,11. The hollow tubing of sections 2l,22.2324 form a water channel connected to water channels formed in arms 10.11 in use, pressurised water can be fed from the vessel "X" down arms 10,1 1 through frame sections 2L22,23.,24 and out through nozzles 21A,22A.
Head I operates in a similar manner to that of the head with arms described in (1132454729 in order to dredge a water bed. Its construction with no hoses and no moving parts makes it very rugged and less prone to damage.
As shown in dotted lines in the drawing, the head I can placed at variable heights depending, on the depth of water under vessel X. The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
