Abstract

A lightweight collapsible lap tray suitable for supporting a laptop computer or a book comprises two rigid panels A&B which are hinged to each other to allow them to open or fold flat. Straps C extend between the panels and have buckles D which allow the length of the straps to be adjusted so as to extend, retract or lock the tray at a desired angle. The lap tray can be turned round to compensate opposite inclinations [see Figs 5 & 6). The tray panels preferably have a boxed hollow core to reduce weight, provide rigidity, and allow heat transfer. The lap tray can be folded flat to allow convenient storage alongside a laptop or notebook in a carry case.

DESCRIPTION

This invention relates to a portable adjustable tray for laptops, notebooks, or even book ready.

Often when travelling I have noticed many people that travel with laptops, notebooks etc.. People find it difficult to find the correct and comfortable position to operate their tool while seated due to the height of the seat which often vary from airports, waiting rooms, bus seats, car seats, or house couches etc..

The purpose of this invention is to create a raised surface on which you can lay your laptop on a flat or comfortable position. It is adjustable in height and can be turned around depending on the inclination required to create a level comfortable height to work on. Most of the structure is raised, which minimizes the transfer of heat to the legs by the equipment. It is very light, folds into a flat surface and is all constructed with soft non scratch material. This prevents any delicate surfaces or electronic equipment being scratched, allowing it to be slotted along side the laptop in it's bag.

This lap tray can be constructed in recyclable or biodegradable materials.

Additional information for the research; there are other similar products which I have found during my research, and the differences are: Laptop risers are mainly built to be positioned on a flat surface, and are usually made of hard materials. They are not suftable on your laps and often they have fixed positions of inclination.

Laptop trays, made by adding a cushion or bean bag under or with all kinds of gadgets added to it, do not allow it to be slipped alongside your laptop, and most of all they are not adjustable in height or compensate to the inclination of the legs or laps by the seating position. Those that are adjustable in height exist but are too bulky to be slotted alongside the laptop.

Basically this invention proves more practical, comfortable and simple to operate and can accompany the laptop.

Claims

CLAIMS1. The two panels are connected together by a hinge which allows the structure to open or close flat.
2. The under panel acts as a support to the upper panel, or working surface.
3. Straps and buckles allow the angle of inclination required.
4. The lap tray can be operated forward and backwards.
5. According to claim 1 the panels are structured with a boxed hollow core thus resulting light, allowing rigidity to the structure and reduce heat transfer.
6. According to claim 3 the straps can be one or more.
7. According to claim 3, and 4, the angle of inclination, 0 degrees being horizontal, can be adjusted from 0 degrees upwards or when turned around from a minus degree to 0.
8. According to claim 5 the panels can be made of plastic, polypropylene, or cardboard and wood, if it was to be constructed as a biodegradable product.
