Abstract
Infinite speed transmission comprises a cone gear 4 having spiral gearing which mates with a gear 5. The gear 5 is able to slide axially on a splined shaft 3 which is driven via gears 2 by an input shaft 1. Cone gear 4 is connected to an output shaft 6. Sliding the gear 5 along the shaft 3while engaged with the cone gear 4 decreases /increases speed of the cone gear 4 and thereby the speed of the output shaft 6. Splined shaft 3 is parallel to an outside surface of the cone gear 4. The spiral gearing has multiple spiral gear teeth along the outside surface of the cone gear 4 and an angle of the spiral gearing is determined by cone ratio of small diameter to large diameter and also cone length.
Description
INFINITE SPEED TRANSMISSION
The invention relates to a infinite speed transmission. Multiple speed transmissions are well known in road and off road vehicles and industral applications. The two main types of transmission are the layshaft with a synchronizing unit for ratio changing and the automatic using epicyclic gearing and multiplate clutches. Both requiring a high number of parts. The infinite speed transmission shown as a small number of part and only two gears for changing speed.
According to the present invention an input shaft driving a gear in turn driving a cone gear connected to the output shaft. The cone having multiple spiral gear teeth along its outer surface. The angle of the spiral gearing is determined by the cone ratio of small diameter to the large diameter and also the cone length. Reducing the cone length will increase the teeth contact angle. Increasing the cone length reduces the teeth contact angle.
A specific embodiment of the invension with reference to the accompanying drawing be described.
Refering to Fig 1 the transmission has an input shaft 1 driving one or more gears 2 attached to a splined shaft 3 rotating parallel to the outside of the cone gear 4 a gear 5 able to slide axialy on splined shaft 3 mating with cone gear 4 attached to the output shaft 6.
Claims (2)
- CLAIMS1. An infinite speed transmission having an input shaft rotating a gear able to slide axialy in contact and rotating a cone having spiral gearing connected to a output shaft resulting in infinite speed rotation.
- 2. The transmission having a small number of parts and only two gears would reduce manufacturing cost.Amendments to the claims have been filed as followsCLAIMS1. An infinite speed transmission having an input shaft rotating agear able to slide axially in contact with and rotating a cone connected to an output shaft: the cone has, along its outer surface, multiple spiral gear teeth which engage with teeth on the gear wherein an angle of the spiral gear teeth is determined by a cone ratio of one diameter to a second diameter and a length of the cone.SSSt os * * * * 5*5*e 0 e * * 0
