Abstract

A slug and snail barrier paint comprises fine, sharp shards of glass and a binder, wherein the glass shards are 1-5 mm in length. The binder may be a synthetic or natural resin and may be selected from acrylics, vinyl acrylics, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), polyurethanes, polyesters, melamine resins, epoxy resins, or oils. The binder may be a two components system and preferably includes a polyurethane or epoxy resin binder. The liquid portion of the paint typically comprises 65-75 wt.% of the total weight of the composition. The paint may be applied to a surface, such as a flower pot or timber, to provide a sharp, abrasive barrier against slugs and snails. The paint is not intended to kill the animal and avoids the use of harmful chemicals that can be washed away by rain.

Description

Slug and Snail, Barrier Paint: Descrintion: This invention relates to a solution that can be painted onto a surface to form a barrier that slugs and snails cannot cross.
Slug and Snail Barrier Paint consists of a mixture of which 75% by weight comprises a liquid solution, such as, resin or paint, which can be clear or coloured that acts as a binder and hardener, and 25% by weight comprises, minute, fine, sharp shards of glass one to five millimeter in length, that when mixed together with the liquid solutionlpaint and applied to a surface, dries hard to form an abrasive sharp surface.
This mixture when applied to the outside of flower pots, the timber and other materials used to make up raised plant beds or directly to the ground around a plant, forms a barrier that slugs and snails will not cross, This solution to this age old problem is simple to apply, economical and durable. This invention ex-cludes the use of chemicals as used in slug pellets that other animals, birds and other and creatures may ingest (and that the rain eventually washes away), the use of plastic collars and metal strips such as copper as used in other forms of slug barriers.
The slug is the enemy of all gardeners whether they are individuals or corporations and the damage the slug does to crops runs into millions of pounds world wide.
This simple solution that is easy to apply is one answer to this problem. Where as other solutions to this problem aim to kill the slug this method just keeps them away from the plants the gardener wants to protect.
