Abstract
247,773. Addis, F. H. April 2, 1925. Rackets.-The throat portion of a tennis, badminton or like racket is divided longitudinally and means are provided whereby the divided parts may be forced away from each other so as to expand the frame and apply tension to the strings. As shown in Fig. 2, a screw with oppositelythreaded ends is inserted between the two parts 3, 4 of the throat portion and is rotated by a spanner applied to a central portion 8. In a modification, Fig. 3, the rotation of a nut 8 by means of a tommy bar draws down a wedge 12 to expand the throat piece. The screwed stem of the wedge may extend axially through the handle and may be operated by a nut at the end. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the parts of the throat piece are forced apart by a stud 6 operated by a spanner. In other modifications, the parts are forced apart by screw-operated toggle links, or by a cam. The tommy-bar or spanner may be stored in an axial recess formed in the end of the handle.
