Abstract

247,760. Wenzel, J. E. March 17, 1925. Feeding webs.-In a device for drawing off fabric webs from drying machines wherein the web is carried in loops depending from rods b supported on rails b<1> and carried by endless chains, the web is drawn off intermittently by constantly driven friction rollers k, k<1> against the tension of a heavy roller c lowered into the loop of the web by a cord d. While the cord c is being lowered into the loop of fabric, the web is held by a brake o, carried by a weighted lever 120, cooperating with a smoothing rail i. Movement of the roller c is effected through the cord d by a chain 3 to a projecting pin q on which the cord is attached, the roller being raised as the pin q descends. Operation of the brake lever 120 is effected by a threearmed cam 11, against which a roller 13 on the lever is pressed by gravity, and a six-toothed star wheel 19 secured thereto, rotation of the cam being effected by the engagement of the pin q and a second pin p on the chain with the star wheel. Motion is imparted to the chain 3 through gearing from a motor 7, and from a wheel 8 on the shaft of the sprocket wheel 5 by a chain 9 to a guide roller g, and from thence by a third chain to the roller k from which the roller k<1> is driven by gearing. In operation, with the roller c supported in its housing d<1> and the pin q having just passed round the sprocket wheel 6, the loop B, or loops of two webs side by side, being dealt with is moved underneath the roller and, as the pin q rises, the roller c is lowered into the loop, the star wheel and cam having been moved by the pin p to bring the brake into position to prevent the feed of the web. While the pin q is passing over the top of the wheel 5, the roller c draws the two webs into alignment and in its downward movement, after passing over the sprocket wheel 5, the pin q rotates the star wheel 19 to cause the cam 11 to lift the brake and allow the rollers k, k<1> to draw off the web as the roller c is raised. A second smoothing rail h, concentric with the pivot, 12 of the lever 120, is provided. The pull applied by the rollers k, k<1> may be altered by making the roller k<1> adjustable round the roller k.
