Medical treatment, special systems of. - A definite air pressure is maintained in a sick chamber or hospital ward 1 by means of a float valve 6, 7, the setting of which is controlled by a two-limbed liquid column having one limb exposed to the pressure prevailing in the chamber and the other limb subject to atmospheric or zero pressure. The limb 8, Fig. 1, communicates with the atmosphere through an orifice 10, and the limb 9 is connected with the chamber 1 through a pipe 11. Air is supplied to the chamber 1 through an inlet 4, in which the float valve is disposed, and air is exhausted by an apparatus 5, a pressure below atmospheric being thereby produced. Alteration of the pressure in the room 1 produces an alteration of the levels of the liquid columns, with corresponding alteration in the setting of the valve and amount of air admitted. The limb 8 may be connected with the atmosphere and the limb 9 with the chamber 1, and the apparatus 5 may then be used to supply air to the chamber 1 and therebv produce a pressure greater than atmospheric in said chamber. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the limb 8 is connected to the chamber 1, and the limb 9 is provided with a vacuum in the space 12 above the liquid. An air filter 15 is also provided.
