Abstract

A two part post protector, the two halves 12 interlock together around a post and are fastened together using a clip system 3 and a nut and bolt 4. The base is made from an injection moulded plastic material with the clips and fastening holes being an integral part of the moulding. Each side of the base has a semi circular hole that when the two parts come together form a central hole appropriately sized to accommodate the post 5 to which they are being fitted. The two halves are permanently fastened together using two allen key bolts and nuts.

Description

Strim Base and Post Protector
Field of the invention
This invention relates to the covering of the ground around the base of a post and to cover and protect the first part of the post it is mounted to.
Background of the Invention
A post is traditionally put into the ground by digging a hole placing the post in and back filling the hole usually with concrete. The base of the post is usually surrounded by soil in which grass grows. These posts are either cut around to keep the grass in check or are sprayed with roundup or similar spray to kill the growth. In some case's to stop the growth around the post concrete is poured into the shuttering around the post base. The advantage of using this post base is that the post it surrounds does not need to be cut up to, hence minimising the risk involved in damaging the post when clearing growth. The post if damaged in a collision with a vehicle will not have a concrete plinth around, so there won't be the issue of broken concrete at an accident, it can be retrofitted so can be fitted to posts where damage is occurring. It will save cost as it is easily fitted. Any dog wee will run away from the post, and will not sit in the growth around the base of the post reducing the risk of corrosion. There will be no need to spray the ground around posts with weed killer.

Strim Base and Post Protector
Detailed Description of Drawings
Referring to figure 1 & 2, these show two halves of the post base (1 and 2) they are clamped together using the locator clips (3) and the bolt and nuts (4) which are tightened bringing together the two pieces (1 and 2) around the post (5). The centre of two halves (1 & 2) have a sleeve (6) which clamps up to the post they are fitted around.
Referring to figure 3 & 4, this shows the underside of the two halves of the base (1 and 2). 7 and 8 show the integral mouldings for the bolts and nuts to be fitted in. And the post.
Referring to figure 5, this shows the bottom of the base with halves clamped together around the post (5) with the bolts (9) fastened.
Referring to figure 6, this shows the top of the base with the two halves clamped together. S... * * S...
