Abstract

The deployable bridge element, particularly for use as a gangway for a boat, comprises a number of interconnected deck panels 2 connected to an inflatable member 1 which, when inflated, deploys the bridge from an unextended to extended configuration. The inflatable member is preferably fitted to the underside of the deck panels and extends the length of the bridge. Two or more inflatable members may be provided which are interconnected to ensure simultaneous inflation. Resilient elements may bias the deck panels towards the unextended configuration, and may comprise the hinges 4 that join the deck panels. The deck panels may be arranged in a sequence of decreasing size and may include alternating short and long panels so that the unextended configuration takes the form of a rectangular coil of panels. A mounting device may be included to secure one end of the bridge to a fixed location.
