Abstract

A sanitary product container comprises a first part2and a second part3which can be reversibly coupled together to define a storage volume for a sanitary product. The first part and the second part are formed from aluminium. The first and second parts2,3of the container may be cylindrical and may be anodised.

Description

SANITARY PRODUCT CONTAINER
The present invention relates to a sanitary product container and in particular to a container adapted to contain a single sanitary product item such as a tampon.
Sanitary items such as tampons are formed from cotton or other absorbent material and are designed to absorb bodily fluids, in particular during menstruation. Each individual tampon is provided to the end user in a protective wrapper formed from waxed paper or similar. The protective wrapper helps to ensure that the tampon is kept hygienically clean prior to use. Due to the potential need to use a sanitary item at short notice, it is often desirable to be able to keep one or more sanitary items, such as tampons, on the person in an item such as a handbag, where they are readily accessible. It has been found that when sanitary items such as tampons are carried in handbags or similar the protective wrapper can become damaged or torn, potentially leading to the tampon being unusable. In addition, many users would prefer a more discreet method of carrying sanitary items.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a sanitary product container comprising a first part and a second part which can be reversibly coupled together to define a storage volume for a sanitary product; the first part and the second part being formed from aluminium.
Preferably the first part and the second part each have a substantially cylindrical form.
Preferably the sanitary item container further comprises a coupling arrangement for retaining the first part and the second part in the couple position. The coupling arrangement may comprise one of an interference push-fit, co-co-operating projections or an 0-ring seal.
Preferably, the first part and or second part are anodised.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the following drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sanitary item container according to the present invention in a closed configuration; and Figure 2 is a perspective view of the sanitary item container of Figure 1 in an open configuration.
As shown in Figure 1, the sanitary item container 1 comprises a first cylindrical part 2 and a second cylindrical part 3. The first cylindrical part 2 comprises an elongate body of a tubular form having a closed end 4 and an open end 5. The elongate body is generally of a consistent diameter along the majority of its length such that the tubing is cylindrical except for a portion 6 of enlarged diameter adjacent to the open end 5.
The second cylindrical part 3 comprises an elongate body again of tubular form having a closed end 7 and an open end 8. The elongate body of the second cylindrical part 3 is of consistent diameter along its entire length and is substantially of the same diameter as the main part of the first cylindrical part 2.
As shown in Figure 2, the first cylindrical part 2 and the second cylindrical part 3 may be coupled together by means of inserting the open end 8 of the second cylindrical part 3 into the open end 5 of the first cylindrical part 2.
The diameter of the enlarged portion 6 of the first cylindrical part 2 is such that the body of the second cylindrical part 3 is received as a frictionally engaging sliding fit. With the first cylindrical part 2 and second cylindrical part 3 coupled together an internal volume of the container 1 is defined which in use can receive a sanitary item such as a tampon.
Advantageously, the first cylindrical part 2 and second cylindrical part 3 are formed from aluminium. The use of aluminium has the advantages that the material is light, durable and may be anodised which increases its resistance to every day wear and damage. Also, the ability to anodise the aluminium allows the application of a variety of finishes and colours to personalise the sanitary item container 1 which can help to make the container 1 more discrete when carried on the person.
The overall length of the sanitary item container 1 may be varied to accommodate sanitary items of differing lengths. For example, a first, relatively long, sanitary item container 1 may be provided to hold standard tampons whereas a second, relatively short, sanitary item container 1 may be provided to contain compact tampons which are shorter in length than standard tampons.
In an alternative embodiment, the first cylindrical part 2 and/or the second cylindrical part 3 may be provided with engaging means at or near their respective open ends 5, 8 to provide a more secure coupling of the first cylindrical part 2 and the second cylindrical part 3. For example, one or other of the first cylindrical part 2 or second cylindrical part 3 may be provided with an 0' ring gasket which would act to increase the frictional engagement between the first cylindrical part 2 and the second cylindrical part 3 on coupling. Advantageously, the use of an 0' ring gasket increases the ability of the container to resist ingress of moisture which can adversely affect sanitary items.
In an alternative embodiment, the first cylindrical part 2 and second cylindrical part 3 may be provided with click-fit or snap-fit engaging projections to provide the user with a positive indication that coupling of the first cylindrical part 2 and second cylindrical part 3 has occurred.
In an alternative embodiment, the first cylindrical part 2 and second cylindrical part 3 may be provided with a bayonet-style fitting wherein one or other of the first cylindrical part 2 or second cylindrical part 3 is rotated relative to the other part in order to effect engagement and disengagement of the two parts.
