Abstract

A surgical instrument tray comprises a base. The outer inferior surface of the base 3 has an adhesive with removable paper covering it. This paper layer can be removed and the base fixed onto the surgical drape. The inner surface of the base has projections 2. The walls 1 of the tray toward the upper end are curved and project into the tray.

Description

I
Instrument Tray
Introduction
This invention is an retaining tray for keeping surgical instruments whe operating. At any one point in surgery there are usuay just two to three surgical instruments that a surgeon needs to be easily accessible to him/her. These could include instruments like surgical retractor, scissors, tissue forceps and dissecting forceps. In practice the instruments are sometimes left on the surgical drape which covers the patient. Potentiay instruments can faU on the floor. These need to be re sterilized and if they are irreplaceable, the operation can get delayed.
Methods currently used Magnetic surgical drapes are used in some operations for keeping instruments. However these cannot be used for non metallic/non magnetizable instruments. They can be expensive and may magnetize instruments undesirably.
Detailed description of the invention (Instrument Tray) This surgical invention comprises of a plastic tray in which the few most needed surgical instruments for any particular point of time during an operation can be kept. The tray can be fixed onto the surgical drape covering the patient by means of adhesive on the tray's base. The instruments are kept separate and in place by projections on the inner surface of the base. The walls gets curved towards the top end of the tray preventing instruments from falling out.
Advantages Metallic and non metallic objects can be kept on the tray.
The instrument tray is light affording almost no additional strain on the patient.
It can be easily and cheaply manufactured.
The instruments are prevented from falling and are kept separate from each other on the tray.
Components ( parts) of the Instrument Tray The present invention is made up of 2 main parts 1. Base: The outer inferior surface of the base (3) has an adhesive with removable paper stuck to it This paper layer can be removed and the base gets fixed onto the surgical drape by means of the adhesive. The inner surface of the base has a few projections (2) which keep the surgical instruments apart 2. Walls: The walls of the tray toward the upper end are curved (1) and project into the tray. They help in keeping the instruments in the tray.

description.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMS1. Instrument Tray with the outer inferior surface of the base with an adhesive having removable paper covering it; this paper layer can be removed and the base fixed onto the surgical drape.
  2. 2. Instrument Tray according to claim 1 with the inner surface of the base having a few projections which keep apart the surgical instruments in the tray.
  3. 3. Instrument Tray according to claim 1 with the upper part of the walls of the tray curved and projecting into the tray helping in keep the instruments in the tray, preventing them from falling down.
