Abstract

A restraint escape aid within a cord means that may be a shoe or boot lace comprised of a pin 1 used as a shim contained within a cavity of a tube 2, which may be bent to form a key like means to undo a lock such as used on a handcuff. Said pin being held in place by a plastic sleeve 3 which may be abutted against an inner kernel 4 and an outer sheath 5. In use the tube 2 is bent to and said pin 1 is forced through holes 6 and 7 to form a Tommy Bar device.

Description

DESCRIPTION
Concealable Escape Aid This invention relates to an aid to escaping from various types of restraints.
Anyone working in high risk areas runs the potential risk of being taken captive and restrained, whether by improvised restraints such as tape and rope, flexible plastic restraints such as flexi-cuffs or cable ties or a variety of different handcuffs. Additionally, any police officer or security officer who possesses handcuffs runs the risk of being over-powered and restrained by their own handcuffs. In all cases it is also highly likely that a search will be conducted to remove any keys, knives or other obvious aids to escape.
To be released from improvised and plastic restraints cutting them off is generally the only way that an escape/release can be made but as mentioned previously any search will reveal any such capable implement. Plastic cable ties can have their workings shimmed and manipulated to effect escape but again this requires getting such an implement through the inevitable search and having it in such a place that gives access to it with any degree of certainty. In the case of handcuffs there is the possibility of using a concealed key although getting it past the search and having it placed in a position which gives access causes great difficulty. For instance, if an additional key is placed in a shirt pocket, and the victim is restrained to the rear, having a key is irrelevant as it cannot be utilised.
To overcome these problems the present invention proposes an escape aid contained within a cord and not exhibiting any obvious characteristics of an escape aid.
The escape aid may be used as a draw cord or a boot/shoe lace without causing any suspicion and which may be easily accessed when restrained in a number of ways.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a cross-sectional view of the end of the escape aid, the other end being identical.
Figure 2 showing a cross-sectional view of the escape aid end on.
In figure 1, a pin 1, shaped to be used in shimming restraints' workings, is contained within the cavity of a hollow tube 2, which when bent forms a handcuff key and is held in place by a plastic sleeve 3 butted against a cord's inner core 4 and its outer sheath 5. when 2 is bent to form the handcuff key 1 is pushed through opposing holes 6 and 7 to form a Tommy-bar to aid operation.
In Figure 2 the overall cylindrical form of the escape aid can be seen. The shim I is contained centrally within the tube 2. That is covered by the retaining sleeve 3 which attaches 2 to the outer cord 5. The holes 6 and 7 on opposing sides of 2 are used to facilitate I being pushed through them to form a Tommy-bar.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMSConcealable Escape Aid 1. A restraint escape aid, comprised of a cutting cord disguised as a draw cord or shoe/boot lace; containing a shim embodied within the cavity of a hollow tube which is held in place, butted against the cord/lace's inner kernel and its outer sheath at either end of the cord and held in place by the plastic sleeve; when the sleeve is peeled off and the hollow tube is bent to form the handcuff key, the shim is pushed through opposing holes along the tube to form a Tommy-bar to aid operation.
  2. 2. A restraint escape aid according to claim 1, in which the shim contained within the tube may be flat sliver of metal.
  3. 3. A restraint escape aid according to claim 1, in which the shim contained within the tube may be a rounded pin.
