245,740. De Forest Phonofilms, Ltd., (Assignees of Forest, L. de). Jan. 10, 1925, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes; low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.-A lamp for use in apparatus for recording sound photographically contains a gas or vapour, and has two electrodes mounted a short distance apart, one at least of the electrodes being formed with a flat surface of substantially larger area than the leading-in wire, on which it is supported at its centre, the wire being at right-angles with the electrode in order to obtain a well-defined discharge and to prevent the discharge from extending along the leads. The electrodes 2 may be of circular, rectangular, or triangular shape. The opposed surfaces of the electrodes may be polished. The filling may be a mixture of neon and mercury vapour, as described in Specification 242,641. The leads 4 may be enclosed in quartz tubes 5. In a modification one of the electrodes consists of a filament.
