Abstract

Ladders. - A stairway tread is formed as an open metal grating in which the mesh at the front is finer than, or different from, the rear mesh, so that the front edge is conspicuous to a person descending the stairway. In the example shown, the front bars 8 are set more closely together; the front bar 1 may also be made thicker than the rear bar 2. The bars 8, 10, 11 may be weded or riveted together and to the frame, and the ends may be supported by tongues 7 bent out from the side bars.
