Latches, swinging; striking-plates. - A swinging latch is operated from one side of a door by a sliding member b, with a boss e against which a tongue a on the latch spindle bears. The latch may be held in a partially retracted position when the door is open by a trigger mechanism such as that described in Specification 168,037. The engaging faces between the trigger and the latch may be undercut so that the trigger cannot move inwardly except with the latch, and the striking plate may be provided with a projection adapted to depress the latch in advance of the depression of the trigger to ensure the correct action of the trigger. Locking means for the latch may be incorporated in the striking plate.
