Abstract
A double headed cable stripper with a cutter head having a pair of cutter jaws 2 and a pliers head having a pair of serrated pliers jaws 3 and a pair of grip handles 1, such that the cutter jaws 2 can be used for cutting and splitting insulation around a cable and the pliers jaws 3 can be used to hold and pull out a cable e.g. an earth cable, from the cable insulation. The cutter jaws 2 and pliers jaws 3 of the cable stripper are moved at the same time by the handles 1. The cutter jaws 2 can be closed completely but a gap is always maintained between the pliers jaws 3.
Description
CABLE STRiPPER This invention ielates to a tool for cutting and stripping mainly the twin core earth cable.
When working with twin core earth cables, cutting the cable and stripping the outer sheath and the conductor insulation are essential.
Usually this is done using a diagonal cutter or /and a pair of combination pliers. This leads to a number of problems. When combination pliers are used, the splitting of the end of the cable to pull the earth strand out and cutting off the peeled sheath are not easy. When a side cutter is used, holding and pulling out the earth strandfor splitting the cable and peeling off the sheath is often tricky. This becomes more difficult when cables are in switch and socket boxes where the access to the end of the required length of the cable to be stripped is restricted by depth of the boxes. Some times while pulling the earth strand with a cutter, it unintentionally cuts off the earth strand. Using a cutter and pliers in turn for cutting and stripping takes more time.
To over come these problems the-present invention-proposes-a-double headed cable tripping tool with a pair of cutting jaws and a pair of pliers jaws.
The invention will now be discussed solely by example and with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the stripping tool with cutter jaws, pliers jaws and the grip handles, Figure 2 shows the divergent arrangement of the cutter head and pliers head, Figure 3 shows the alternative arrangement of the cutter head and pliers head.
This invention in simple terms is a combination of a diagonal cutter and a bend nose pliers.
This tool has a pair of grip handles 1, a cutting head having a pair of cutter jaws 2 and a pliers head having a pair of serrated pliers jaws 3. The pliers jaws 3 are branched from the cutter jaws 2. The cutter jaws 2 and -the-pliers jaws 3 are curved in opposite directions to each other as in Figure 2.
This stripper works similar to a diagonal cutter or pliers. When the grip handles 1 are pressed together, the cutter jaws 2 close in as well as the pliers jaws 3. But pliers jaws 3 do not close fuliy touching each other, but leave enough gap between these jaws 3 to allow the complete closing of the cutter jaws 2 so that the cutting can be properly performed.
However, tlis gap is kept to the minimum and not greater than that is required to hold an earth strand of a twin core earth cable. Using the cutter jaws 2 the twin core earth cable can be cut and with the tip of the cutter jaws 2 The end of the cable can be split. As the pliers jaws 3 are bent in the opposite direction of the cutter jaws 2, they do not obstruct the function of the cutter jaw tips. Then from the split end of the cable, the earth strand can be easily prised out using the pliers jaws 3. Further the same pliers jaws can be used to hold the earth strand to pull it out to split the cable and to peel off the outer sheath. Then using the cutter jaws 2 the sheath can be cut off and other cores can be stripped. Thus this stripping tool makes the cutting and stripping of the twin core earth cable much easier than using a side cutter or! and combination pliers.
Figure 3 shows an alternative arrangement of the cutter jaws 2 and pliers jaws 3. The pliers jaws 3 are extended from the cutter jaws 2 and are bent in the same direction but in different angles. So one would not obstruct the fiinctioi of the other.
The grip handles may be with insulation or without insulation.
