Abstract
244,965. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). March 12, 1925. Pottery.-The stem of a porcelain or other insulator having one or more skirts 8, 9, is formed with tapered seatings 6, 7 to fit corresponding apertures in the skirts. In manufacture, the green porcelain of the stem and skirts is coated with glaze, the skirts are placed in position, and the whole insulator is fired, the skirts shrinking on to the stem and the glaze fusing to bind the parts together. The skirt 9 has a drip flange 15 and a flange 16 which serves as a firing foot on which the insulator is supported during firing, so that the skirt 8 is seated by its own weight on the seating 6, and the weight of the skirt 8 and stem 1 forces the seating 7 into the skirt 9. The skirt 8 has a drip flange 12 and is ribbed and grooved. Slot and stud end caps 19, 20 are connected to the stem by elastic material 23, 24, and cement 25.
