Abstract
A toothbrush with a spherical or cylindrical brushhead with bristles 1 fixed at differing angles to the axis of the handle forming a 360{ circle. The brush may be rotated when in use either manually or powered by an electric motor.
Description
1 2448466 Toothbrush head This invention relates to a brush head for a
hand held toothbrush.
When a person brushes their teeth, either using an electric toothbrush or a manual toothbrush, a single faced brush head is used. This means that only one section of the teeth can be brushed at one time (e.g. molars on lower section of the teeth) and in practice it is difficult to accurately remove plaque from the inside gum line of the teeth. Therefore, brushing the teeth effectively can become time consuming and in some cases ineffective as not all areas/sections of the teeth are reached and cleaned by the brush.
To prevent this occurring, the present invention proposes a toothbrush with a spherical or cylindrical shaped brush head which can be rotated when brushing the teeth either manually by hand or alternatively by an electric motor.
The spherical or cylindrical brush head will ensure both the upper and lower sections of the teeth can be brushed simultaneously as well as ensuring that the inside gum lines of the teeth can reached more easily due to the spherical brush head.
Preferably, the rotation of the spherical or cylindrical brush head, preferably provided by an electric motor, will help to remove plaque from the teeth and gum lines more efficiently and effectively as the brush will always be in contact with tooth by the use of a rotational brushing action.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: * Figure 1 shows a toothbrush with a spherical brush head (drawing A), a toothbrush with a single faced brush (drawing B) and a toothbrush with an alternative cylindrical shaped brush head (drawing C).
* Figure 2 shows 2 drawings of a cross section of the mouth with both the upper and lower sections of the teeth, drawing A shows a toothbrush with a sphericalIcylindrical brush head and drawing B shows a toothbrush with a single faced brush.
* Figure 3 shows 2 drawings of the lower section of the mouth, drawing A shows a toothbrush with a spherical/cylindrical brush head and drawing B shows a toothbrush with a single faced brush.
In figure 1, the design of a spherical brush head is shown in drawing A with the bristles (1) of the brush head fixed different angles so they form a 360 degree circle, which helps to create a sphere-shaped. Similarly, in drawing C the design of the cylindrical shaped brush head also shows groups of bristles attached to the head of the toothbrush at different angles and dimensions forming a cylindrical shaped brush head. The design of single faced brush is shown in drawing B with the bristles of the brush pointing out in one direction creating only one face.
In figure 2, drawing A conveys how a spherical/cylindrical brush head is contact with both the upper sections (2) and lower sections (3) of the teeth when brushing the molar and pre-molar teeth towards the back of the mouth, where rotation of the brush head either manually or by an electric motor will help plaque removal from teeth.
Drawing B compares a single faced brush head when brushing the same sections of the teeth, showing how only the upper or lower sections of the teeth can only be brushed at one time. In the case of drawing B only the teeth in the lower section (3) are in contact with the brush head leaving the teeth in the upper section (2) untouched by the brush.
Figure 3 shows the brushing of the inside gwn line of the lower section (3) of the teeth, drawing A with a spherical/cylindrical brush head and drawing B with a single faced brush head. In drawing B the single faced brush head is only in contact with the lower section (3) of the teeth whereas in drawing A the lower section (3) of the teeth and the tongue (4) are in contact with the spherical/cylindrical brush head; where rotation of the brush head will help plaque removal from the teeth gum line on the lower section of the teeth (3) and tongue (4). This conveys how the spherical/cylindrical brush head can reach sections the mouth and teeth that a single faced brush head can't during normal brushing actions.
Claims (3)
- Claims 1. A toothbrush with a spherical or cylindrical shaped brushhead.
- 2. A spherical or cylindrical shaped brush head according to claim 1, in which the bristles of the brush head are fixed different angles so they form a 360 degree circle thus creating a spherical/cylindrical shaped brush.
- 3. A spherical or cylindrical shaped brush head according to claim 1, which can be rotated when brushing the teeth either manually by hand or by an electric motor.
