A door closer comprises a housing for fitting into a door a tension member extending longitudinally within a central bore of the housing and extending outwardly of the housing through the opening to define an end thereof for fitting to a door frame, a spring within the housing and a hydraulic damping. The piston includes an accumulator 90 comprising a compressible foam body and a spacer element.
