Abstract

A vehicle suspension swing arm 1, with a secondary stabilising branch 2, upon which may be mounted swivel joints 3, positioned to accept a swivel hub carrier 4. The swivel arm rotates about point 5 and the swivel centre is at 6.

Description

VEHICLE SUSPENSION SWING ARM

The invention relates to a vehicle suspension swing arm of the type normally fitted on its outer end with a swivel hub carrier mounted on a swivel pin.

This swivel pin tends to wear relatively quickly and may require replacement at frequent intervals.

An object of this invention is to provide a swing arm of this type with the advantage of a swivel hub carrier mounted in such a way to preclude the requirement of a swivel pin and its frequent maintenance.

Accordingly this invention provides for the suspension swing arm to have a secondary stabilising branch to which may be fitted a swivel joint, with a second swivel joint fitted to the outer end of the main arm in place of the swivel pin. To these joints may be fitted a hub carrier, all of which replaces the swivel pin type hub carrier.

The suspension arm may be left-handed or right-handed.

Preferably the swing arm and its secondary stabilising branch will be made of metal.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a side view of the arm in left-handed configuration.

Figure 2 shows a front view. S...

As shown in the figures, the main swing arm 1 has a secondary stabilising branch 2, : * upon which may be mounted swivel joints 3, positioned to accept a swivel hub carrier 4. The swing arm rotates about point 5 and the swivel hub centre is shown at 6.
