Abstract

There is disclosed a method of moulding root vegetables to any shape by vacuum forming. Baskets for the catering industry are produced. They are formed using a cup in this example or any shape required into which a carrier (3) is then placed. The membrane (4) is then pushed into the carrier (3) and the vacuum applied the root vegetables are then compressed by the membrane (4) into shape. The carrier (3) is then removed from the cup containing the root vegetables and frozen to facilitate the removal of the baskets in the example from the carrier (3) ready for cooking.

Description

<p>VEGETABLE BASKETS</p>
<p>This invention relates to a method of moulding root vegetables to any shape required by vacuum forming, this example shows a basket. But other shapes can be achieved with different moulds.</p>
<p>In the catering industry which includes food production companies and suppliers, new products are always in demand to put on our tables, hence the vegetable basket was created.</p>
<p>According to the present invention there are three main parts for the.</p>
<p>7845Oproduction of vegetable baskets, in the bottom there is a cup which provides the shape of the basket externally (1) which is mounted on a vacuum chamber, with a seal (2) to create the vacuum. A basket carrier (3) is then placed in the bottom cup to allow each individual basket to be removed after vacuum forming. In the top there is a membrane (4) which is held in place by a moulding (5). To produce the baskets, root vegetables are extruded through a Japanese vegetable turning machine or similar machinery.</p>
<p>The vegetables are then placed in position around and on top of the carrier.</p>
<p>The top half is then pressed down and the vacuum is then applied. The membrane is then pulled into the shape of the carrier and the vegetables are then formed into shape. The carrier is then removed and the vegetable basket is then frozen to facilitate the removal of the vegetable basket.</p>
<p>A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:-Figure 1 shows the cup mounted in position in the vacuum chamber.</p>
