Abstract

A holder 7 for securing rubber bands on a bicycle has a fixing bracket 4 for mounting the holder on the handlebars of the bicycle and a spring hook 2 attached to the fixing bracket by means of a weld 6. The bracket 4 is secured to the handlebars using two fixing bolts 3, 5. The spring hook has a hinged arm 1 which is biased to the closed position by a steel leaf spring or flat wire spring. By the exertion of minimal pressure on the hinged arm, it can be moved inwards to reveal the hook on which rubber bands can be deposited. Once pressure is released from the arm, it returns to the closed position thus preventing the rubber bands from separating from the holder. The holder may have particular use for postal workers.

Description

1 2435249 Rubber Band Holder This invention relates to a device for
holding rubber bands on bicycles, operated by the post delivery service, in this instance the Post Office.

Prior to delivery, the postal workers divide their mail up with rubber bands. These bundles of mail are then placed in postal carrier bags which then sit in front of the cycle handle bars. A large percentage of this mail is delivered by post workers on a bicycle. . . Currently there is no purpose made device for storing rubber bands Once the rubber bands have been removed from the bundles of post. These used rubber bands are often discarded onto pavements, causing litter and waste.

The Rubber Band Holder is designed to be attached to the handle bar of a bicycle thus providing easy access.

The rubber band holder consists of a handle bar attachment, attaching the unit to the bicycle, and joined to this by means of a weld, is a spring hook.

With minimal effort from the postal worker, the carbon spring, otherwise known as a steel leaf spring or flat wire spring will open to reveal a hook where the rubber bands may be deposited.

On the completion of the delivery round, the stored rubber bands may be removed from the hook and stored at the sorting office for the next day deliveries.

The invention may now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a rubber band holder attached to a fixing bracket, Figure 2 shows the rubber band holder with the spring hinge arm in the open position.

In Figure 1, the rubber band holder is attached by means of a weld 6 to a fixing bracket 4 with two fixing bolts 3 and 5. This fixing bracket is designed to be attached to the handle bars of a bicycle. Figure 1 shows the rubber band holder 2 in the closed position with the spring hinge bar 1 completing a continuous circuit.

Figure 2 shows the rubber band holder with the spring hinge bar I in the open position. This is facilitated by means of a hinge 2. Attached to this hinge is a carbon spring, otherwise known as a steel leaf spring or flat wire spring. The tension of which is light enabling operational use with one hand. Once pressure is removed from the spring hinge bar 1 will close to form a continuous circuit or closed formation. .

Claims (1)

  1.
Claims I The rubber band holder unit comprising attachment means for
attaching the unit to a bicycle by way of a fixing bracket. A spring hook is attached to the bicycle fixing bracket.

2. A rubber band holder unit according to claim 1, comprising of a spring loaded hinge arm. The spring loaded function is provided by means of carbon spring steel, otherwise known as leaf spring or flat wire spring.

3. A rubber band holder unit according to the two previous claims, whereby once light pressure is exerted on the spring, a hook is then revealed. Once pressure is released the spring hinge arm then closes preventing rubber bands separating from the unit.

4. A rubber band holder unit according to the three previous claims, in which the pressure exerted on the holding unit spring hinge arm to reveal hook is minimal, thus providing operational use with one hand.
