Reciprocating or oscillating sieves; sieves with compound motion. - In cinder sifting apparatus of the type comprising a riddle mounted in a dustbin or other receptacle, the riddle is mounted so as to be capable of a rocking movement about a horizontal pivotal support, and an oscillating movement about its central vertical axis, in addition to horizontal sliding and vertical reciprocating movements. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the riddle 14 is of smaller dimensions than the dust-bin 1, and is supported on two diametrically opposite pins 11, being actuated by a handle 9 passing through a circumferential slot 8 in the side of the bin. The edges of the slot may be plain or wavy in outline. The modification shown in Fig. 6 comprises a runner 21 on the riddle coacting with a corrugated support 19 to produce the movement about the pins 11 when the handle is reciprocated in the slot. Fig. 5 shows another modification in which corrugated edges 17 at diametrically opposite areas of the riddle engage the pins 11. In the construction shown in Fig. 7, diametrically opposite corru. gated supports 19 on the bin are engaged by runners 21 on the riddle. In the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 7, an additional rocking movement is obtained by setting the corrugations of the parts 17, 19 out of alignment diametrically.
