Abstract

A buoyant life survival aid comprises at least two buoyant objects, such as conventional marine fenders, bound together to form an apparatus that can be used to support a person in distress in the water. The invention adapts the use of standard marine fenders, which would always be present on a vessel for use as a life saving aid, thus reducing the need for traditional life saving apparatus and freeing up valuable storage space on the vessel. Also disclosed are a fun water tow chair or bed and a drag along life survival aid formed from marine fenders bound together.

Description

Simple problems of today and background of the invention.

During my past 50 years of marine experience, as a Captain on a Crab fishing boat in Alaska, I noticed that due to costs and space savings on board, little priority was paid to the life saving of the Crewmembers. Although there were regularity aids, such as lifeboat and safety jackets onboard, there were no simple quick throw overboard aids, which would help a crewinember in a fall overboard situation. In such extreme cold waters as in Alaska a crewmember had little survival time when in the water and to use the lifeboat takes time. Throwing out a lifejacket had limited distances.

It was on this basis that my invention is to provide a simple aid that is already hanging around on board of the deck or rigging, which would act as a quick saving aid that can be easily thrown off a boat deck over a long distance in a mater of seconds.

2. How can this invention help? Simply by having a throwing overboard rescue aid that is already being used on board of the deck for another purpose and not recognised as an additional cost and space user.

3 Technical description.

Two conventional Fenders (Fig 1 & 2) utilized in a configuration, via the aid of rope or binding material (Fig 3), for acting as a human water-float life saving aid in the event of a marine overboard accident.
