Abstract

An efficient energy saving burner enclosure 1 for gas burning appliances that increases the efficiency and energy saving is disclosed. The enclosure sits around the burner 4 and concentrates the radiated peat and the flame that goes astray from the burner towards the target object or container 6. The enclosure may be protected with heat resistive painting and or refractory coating to improve insulation and reflection of the heat back towards the target object that is heated. The enclosure has several notching apertures and holes to provide air access to the burner to improve the combustion. Greater part of the heat flux generated by the burning gas is contained by the enclosure and redirected towards the target recipient or container, thus increasing the efficiency of the heating process. The amount of heat radiated sideways into the environment is largely reduced by containing the flame and redirecting the heat towards the recipient. The enclosure brings a large saving of gas usage and reduces green gas emission of industrial, domestic and camping appliances.

Description

Efficient Energy Saving Device, for Gas Burners This invention relates
to a. hurner enclosure'that increases the efficiency and energy saving for a broad range of gas burning appliance used in industrial, domestic or camping environments.

Energy saving is a great issue in the global economy and recent concerns of the G8 summit include the reduction of greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Current talks are aimed at getting the commitment of all industrial countries to reduce the amount of pollutants injected into the environment and especially into the atmosphere. The cost of natural gas is continuously increasing, for example, current forecasts predict an increase ofl00 on average for each household in the UK for the year 2006.

The energy efficiency requirement imposed by the imperative to cut down on greenhouse gas emission as well as the high cost of energy make it vital to seek for improvements in current and future gas burning appliances in order to increase their efficiency. It is therefore desirable to develop devices that improve the operational efficiency of existing appliances in terms of energy consumption.

The drawback of current gas burners is that the flame is neither contained nor controlled once out of the burner. Consequently the heat generated is not directed solely to the intended recipient of the heat. Any object placed in the proximity of the burner (sideway) is heated red hot (up to melting point for some metal) by heat not directed towards the recipient. Gas burning appliances are made still less effective because part of the energy generated by the burnt gas is dissipated into the environment without producing a useful result. Thus, a large amount of heat goes straight into the atmosphere. In cooking appliances, for example, a considerable amount of the heat generated by the flame does not reach the target container. This heat warms up the immediate environment, as can be noticed in a kitchen. Kitchens all over the world are warned up by several degrees just to boil one egg. The aforementioned example is given as illustrative case amongst many others.

This invention tackles said problems by introducing a device that increases the efficiency of gas burning appliances. The invention increases efficiency by containing the flame, restricting sideways-going heat and directing the heat towards the target recipient. The enclosure sits around the burner and stops any heat propagation into the immediate environment.

Referring to the figures where illustrations are given for the purpose of describing some of the preferred embodiments of this invention, these are not intended to limit the present invention described hereafter.

Figure 1 shows a general view of the burner enclosure.

Figure 2 illustrates a cross section of the enclosure on a gas cooker.

Figure 3 is an alternative configuration as in Figure 1.

Figure 4 depicts another form of the enclosure as in Figure 1.

With reference to the figures illustrating the burner enclosure according to the present invention, the enclosure 1 sits around the burner 4. A grate 5 is mounted into the slots 3 and secures the firm position of the enclosure 1 relative to the burner 4.

The top end of said enclosure with slots 3 is designed in a way that allows for the easy matching of any configuration of grates. One of the preferred embodiments of the top end of the enclosure 1 to accommodate various grate configurations is a kind of easy detachable bristles or segments. However, in some cooker designs where the space between the grate and the top plate is limited the enclosure may not have the slots 3.

The apertures 2 made at the base of the enclosure 1 allow for an air supply to the burner.

During the burning or cooking process, the flame is contained and the body of the enclosure 1 directs the entire generated heat towards the recipient or target container 6.

Depending on the configuration, the enclosure can also be held down firmly by inserting the feet 7 of the enclosure into prefabricated compartments in the top plate of the appliance, for example gas cookers.

For camping cooking appliances, an additional plate with hole (plate not shown here) is required at the base of said enclosure to contain the flame fully, as well as for mounting purposes.

Depending on the configuration of the application, several holes 8 can be added in the middle or at the top of the enclosure 1.

For current and future designs of gas burning appliances, the enclosure can be embedded into the appliances by various means. For example, the enclosure can be dished or diced into the top plate of cooking appliances.

Enclosure 1 is preferably coated with special heat resistive paint or refractory material that improves the strength and efficiency of said enclosure
