Abstract

A pharmaceutical package in the form of a flat paper card format comprises peelable perforated squares 7 that are numbered or dated, each covering a respective pill, tablet or capsule. A thermoplastic blister pack 1 is mounted behind the paper card section 3 and is inserted through cut-out holes 2. The pills are inserted into the pocket openings of blister pack 1, and sealed by an aluminium sheet of foil 9. Adhesive is applied to both sides of the aluminium foil 9. The paper card section 3 is then folded back and permanently attached to the back of section 4, containing the adhered aluminium foil 9 in between. Each perforated square 7 contains a pull-tab 8. As a pull-tab 8 is pulled, the perforated square 7 is peeled back also tearing the adhered aluminium foil 9 underneath, revealing a pill. A Patient Information Leaflet may be attached within a cover 6.

Description

PHARMACEUTICAL PACKAGING
The present invention concerns an innovated blister-packaging format and method of manufacturing, suitable for packaging medicinal pills, tablets or capsules.
Most people are familiar in opening blister packs of medicinal pills or tablets, and aware with the fact that these are formed of a flat thermoplastic base with pocket openings containing the pills. The pills are held into the pockets by an aluminium sheet of foil bonded/sealed over the pocket openings and on to the plastic blister base.
However, the use of conventional blister packaging can lead to a number of difficulties.
Existing blister packages create difficulties for a great number of elderly people, especially for those suffering from arthritic hands. Medicinal blister packaging should not rely on the need for physical strength. The main problem is that there is some struggle involved to pop blister packs, and in some cases there are blister packs that are made out of tough metal foil instead of plastic.
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a new and friendlier method of consumer use for everyone, especially for the arthritic and elderly people.
The present invention does not rely on the need for physical strength.
The invention is a flat-pack' package that provides a peeling technique to obtain the medicine tablets or capsules. The package consists a number of perforated squared pull- tabs' each covering a tablet/capsule. As a pull-tab is pulled, a piece of aluminium foil adhered behind the pull-tab is broken, to obtain a tablet/capsule.
The flat-pack package also includes a thermoplastic blister base that is mounted inside the package keeping the pills intact.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the whole layout of the pharmaceutical flat-pack package, Figure 2 shows the inside view of the package, with the front cover opened, Figure 3 shows the back view of the package, Figure 4 is a section showing the perforated squared pull-tabs'.
In figure 1, a thennoplastic blister 1 is mounted behind the paper card section 3 and is inserted through the cut-out holes 2. The tablets/capsules are inserted into the pocket openings of the blister pack 1, and sealed /bonded by an aluminium sheet of foil 9.
Adhesive is applied to both sides of the aluminium sheet of foil 9.
The paper card section 3 is then folded back and permanently attached to the back of section 4, containing the adhered aluminium sheet of foil 9 in between.
Figure 2 shows the inside view of the package. Section 5 becomes the spine for the package to indicate section 6 as a front cover for the package. The inside of the front cover 6 contains an attachment, the PILtJatient Information Leaflet) 10 which is attached by two circular pieces of sellotapeLl'l.
Figure 3 shows the back view of the package section 4 containing perforated squares 7.
Figure 4 shows a section of the perforated squares 7. Each square 7 contains a pull-tab 8, which is to be pulled by the consumer. As a pulltab 8 is pulled, the perforated square 7 is torn by a peeling technique. As the square 7 is peeled back, the aluminium sheet of foil 9 adhered behind the square 7 is torn, revealing a tabletlcapsule. It is this peeling technique and packaging format that proposes a more and friendlier method of consumer use for everyone, especially for the arthritic and elderly people.
