Abstract
242,797. Howells, E. J., Jenkins, D. C., and Jones, J. O. Nov. 27, 1924. Lantern shutters.-In a vehicle lamp a number of parallel horizontally arranged metal blades c having reflecting surfaces are pivotally mounted on pins c<1> within a supporting ring b which is mounted within a cylindrical sleeve a adapted to be secured to the front rim of the lamp by screwed pins, spring arms, or other suitable means, the blades being adapted to be moved from a horizontal position into a downwardly inclined position by means of a vertical rod d pivotally connected at d' to the middle of the rear edges of the blades. The lower end of the rod is pivotally connected to a bell-crank lever f which is operated by means of transmission mechanism such as a Bowden wire h against the action of a spiral spring g located between one arm of the lever and a vertical portion e' of a bracket e enclosed within a downwardly extending casing j secured upon the exterior of the sleeve a. The other end of the Bowden wire may be connected to an operating lever i adjacent the driver's seat and having a spring-pressed plunger i<1> co-operating with notches i<2> in a quadrant i<3>.
