Abstract

242,688. Bossini, R. F. July 17, 1924. Electrolytic rectifiers.- The electrolyte is maintained at a low temperature by a separate radiator through which and the cell the electrolyte circulates by thermosyphonic action. The cathodes 3, 4 are of aluminium and the anode 5 is of lead or iron. These electrodes are completely immersed in electrolyte in a cell 1 provided with a pipe 6 up which heated electrolyte ascends to a radiator or tank 7, cooled electrolyte returning to the cell by a pipe 8 provided with a draw-off cock 9. The rods 10 carrying the electrodes are protected from the liquid, to avoid corrosion, by tubes 12 engaging packing a,t each end, the packing being compressed by nuts 14. Stuffing boxes 16 surround the tubes where they emerge from the cell.
